I
was born 15th november 1961. I learned the move
at very early
age. I
started go to a club when I was 14. First 3
years I made great
improvment.
At age of I became master of Hungary, and took
11th
place at world junior championship under twenty.
After finishing the
secondary
school I decided to
became a professional player.
1980
Dortmund world junior championship I finished
9th. I was close get
a medal but I lost Short. Last round I agreed a
draw with Kasparov,
having a pawn advantage. I became an
international master in 1982. After that my
results slowed down.
1984 I won the
Hungarian Open chmpionship. I won several low
category tournaments.
I was many times close to make a GM norm, but
spoiled every time.
I was 6 times a member of the national champion
team. I played all great Hungarian player except
Judit Polgar. I played Portisch, Szabo, Ribli,
Sax, Pinter, Almasi, Leko. I was lucky to play
many
world class players like Kasparov, Tal, Anand,
Ivanchuk, Gelfand,
Short, Yusupov, Dolmatov, Elhvest. I had minus
score of course,
but the battles were not one sided.
I the eighties I was many years training partner
of Zsuzsa Polgar.
In 1989 autumm I started
to give chesslessons. My very first pupil
was the 10 years old Peter Leko. I estimate his
level was 1900.
First 3 years we worked 6 hours a day 180-200
days a year.
In 93 we trained him somewhat less, as he had
worked with other players
as well.
We stopped 1993 october, by that time he had 2
grandmaster norms and 2555 Elo. Three months
later he broke the record of the
youngest ever grandmaster. The record was held
by Judit Polgar and
the legendary Bobby Fischer.
According to Leko, I had decisive effect
on his chess. Two and half years ago we started
to work together again.
We work less, as he has other trainers. Ever
since he broke the 2700 level
at age of 20 (Kramnik is the only other player
to equal this.) He broke
into the top ten of the world. I was one of his
second during his match
against Khalifman.
In
1994 I trained half a Sofia Polgar. She
increased her Elo 70 points.
She took a silver medal at world junior
championship for boys under 20.
No women player ever achieved it, never a
Hungarian player did better than this. Little
bit after we stopped working, she made 12,5
points
out 14 on board two at the Moscow Olympiad. My
third GM pupil is
Zoltan Gyimesi, his best result was the bronze
medal world championship under 20. He won few
games agains players in the top ten.
I trained from
1991 to 2000, we started training when he was
14.
Last few years I trained women GM Ildiko Madl.
She made decent score
when she recently played for Hungary. In Batumi
European Championship
on board 1 she made 6,5 out of nine.
Monika Grabics won Hungarian women championship,
she also made a 2540 performance beating
grandmasters, among others, Sax was her victim.
My pupils have 7 medals in world junior
championships, Tejas Bakre from India won the
Asian under 20.
I had many pupils who are international masters.
My pupils usually are good at openings. For
example Leko beat
twice Topalov with my novelty. My pupils are
good at endgames as well.
Leko won his match against Fide world champion
Khalifman by the big
margin of 4,5:1,5, because he played clearly
better the endgames.
I
am married, I have 3 sons.
I speak English, Russian and German fluently. I
like to read. I like to
play tennis. I play tennis tournaments, my best
ranking was 148th in Hungary. I won silver medal
at Hungarian championship over 35.
I
am a peacefull person, who causes no trouble.
