The Pawn

The pawn has the most limited movement in chess. Still it can change the right of moving dramatically. The pawn on the starting position can choose between moving one or two squares. If we smell that zugzwang will have a role in the position, we should be specially careful how we move our pawns. There is one more way to lose tempo by a pawn. If we have an irrelevant pawn, we can sacrifice it in order to make the opponent move.
